HTD Biosystems Inc.

High Throughput Development of Pharmaceuticals

Who are we?
HTD Biosystems was founded in 2001. Over the past 6 years, HTD has conducted over 60 projects from early phase to final development, with more than 40 clients. HTD has worldwide collaboration with big and small pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies.
Projects include preformulation/formulation of both small molecules and protein/peptide based pharmaceuticals, solubilization of sparingly soluble drugs and lyophilization development. We employ high throughput analytics and novel multivariable experimental design strategies in our projects that saves time, money, and resources without comprising quality.
HTD is also a recent award recipient of Phase II Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) grant on pulmonary delivery of a protein drug with the University of Colorado. In addition, HTD is also currently involved in a multi-million dollar project to develop a multivalent vaccine candidate.
HTD Biosystems office is located in San Francisco Bay area (Hercules), California.
Management
Dr. Rajiv Nayar ,President and Founder received his Ph.D. in Biochemistry from University of British Columbia, B.C. After a Medical Research Council postdoctoral fellowship at M.D Anderson Tumor Institute, Houston, TX, he joined the Canadian Liposome Company in Vancouver, B.C. He was head of the Formulation and Drug Delivery Unit at Bayer Corp. Biotechnology Division in Berkeley, CA from 1991 until 2000. At Bayer, he was the recipient of 3 consecutive awards in process continuous improvements at Bayer Corporation. He has published over 60 scientific articles in various disciplines including liposomes, cancer biology, drug delivery systems, protein formulation and biochemical characterization of pharmaceuticals. He is an inventor on 8 U.S patents. Dr. Nayar is an adjunct Professor of Pharmaceutics at the University of Colorado School of Pharmacy. His research interests include protein formulation, drug delivery systems, and pharmaceutical drug characterization. He is an expert in multivariate statistical methodology in pharmaceutical product development and a course instructor in experimental design. .
Dr. Mitra Mosharraf , Chief Scientific Officer (CSO) received her Ph.D. degree in Pharmaceutics from Uppsala University in Sweden. She is also a licensed Pharmacist and has a green belt in six sigma. She was a Principal Scientist at Pfizer, working on process and product development with parenteral devices and protein formulation, before joining HTD Biosystems in 2005. Dr Mosharraf has published several scientific articles and given numerous lectures on the solubility and dissolution rate topics. Her research interest includes 1)solubility and dissolution rate of sparingly soluble drugs, 2) protein solubility and aggregation,3) protein formulation and 4) material sciences including solid-state characterization.
